It seems its conflicting times that lies ahead for Samsung and Toshiba as these two companies are willing to leave no stones unturned to find out who will be the trend setter in glasses-free
3D TV segment. It can be mentioned here that the first glasses-free 3D TV sets from Toshiba made its debut in Asia amidst mixed reviews.
The 12 and 20 inch models of the Toshiba glasses free
3D TVs were available for the Japanese customers before Christmas last year. Coming with a quite hefty price tag of around $1500 for the smaller set and about $3000 for the larger set, Toshiba however found actual sales figures were trailing its earlier estimates.
In the meantime, Samsung recently launched a monster 55 inch glasses free
3D TV set at a technology show in Shanghai, China. However as it is a prototype it is not expected to hit markets in the next few years. But then, those who got to see the demo were clearly impressed with what the 3D TV has to offer, which means the Samsung offering can be worth waiting for.
So even if you are unwilling to wait that long and have already firmed up plans to buy a glasses free
3D TVset this year itself, well it can definitely be said that conditions have improved as far as contents go. Like there are available quite a few movies in 3D format though we can surely do with some more. Then 3DS gaming system from Nintendo is also available. It definitely sounds good, except for a little fact that there is no supported way to install Nintendo 3DS in a 3D or non
3D TV set.
Many channels have also now started or are in active stages of beaming programs in
3D format, like live telecast and so on. For instance, DirecTV has quite a few of them; in fact they have 4 dedicated 3D channels where you can view movies, sports, nature programs, documentaries etc
